To be more precise, it is towards the southeast of Kullu, at an elevation of approximately 4800 m.
Named after the pristine Tirthan river, the valley offers opens the doors to the newly recognized UNESCO World Heritage Site – The Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP), spread over an area of 1100 sq kilometers. It is a paradise for trekkers, offering one of the finest trekking opportunities in the world. Not to forget for bird lovers as well who spend days camping in the heart of this park. For not only an escape from the overcrowded city life, but also an escape from the more-crowded Himachali getaways, it doesn’t get much better than Tirthan. However the only way to see the core zone of the park is by foot. It takes 4-5 hours from Goshaini in Tirthan to reach the gates of the park at Kharongcha. The park offer several treks right from Shilt Thatch to Rakhundi peak & sainj Valley on the right side, to Hanskund & nada Thatch if you go straight & to Khorli Poi & Asur Baag on the left hand Side , all a part of the Tirthan Wildlife Sanctuary- a part of the World Heritage Site.
